Beginning

How to begin? That's always the first question--be it a new blog, book or year.  Funny thing is, you never know until you begin it.

So just what is this new blog I'm beginning? All I know is  I'll  try to do it as often as I can (bi-weekly, but there are no promises)--and share with  curious readers, serious writers and those with nothing better to read what I know about writing, which like life, seems less the older I get. Yet teaching has taught me some fundamental truths about developing plots, and  creating  believable characters, settings and dialogue  that I hope will be helpful to others. I'll also try to answer questions that are sent to me.

One question I always get is where I find my ideas.

The idea thing is particularly crucial these days since I have a new book to write in a new genre (paranormal romance) with a cast of characters quite different from the ones I created in When the Night Whispers.  Writing a paranormal romance was harder than I thought--and a lot more fun. I had no idea there were so many websites promoting spells, potions and evil spirits. When the Night Whispers is about a single mom's passionate, dangerous, sensual encounter with a sexy demon lover. So where does one go from there? Shape-shifters, maybe?

And finally--what can I say about beginning 2012?  Until the sun explodes in my face, I simply refuse to  entertain  doomsday thoughts. I love too many children to believe in the end of their world.  Besides that, I couldn't  do a darn things about it anyway.   But what I can do is sweeten the world I live in--add enough honey to my lemons and water to make the tastiest lemonade I can sip.

My dear friend Dee offered beautiful words on her blog Darker than Blue   (thandiwedeewattsjones.blogspot.com.)  She advises one to  "love with ferocity and gentleness," which seems a wise to way to greet this new year and those you encounter each day--and that, I've decided, is where I'll begin.
